How to submit the perfect photo for your portrait commission

When you submit a portrait photo for a commission, be sure to give me options. Choose a picture with a special story and give me several choices.

Sometimes photos are too blurry or the face is too small to capture a likeness. Here are the ideal factors in a good portrait photo:
  1. The face needs to be big enough so I can capture the likeness.
  2. The lighting is important; if it's too dark, I can't make out details and if it's too light, I don't have enough shadows to sculpt the face.
  3. Choose a photo that captures not only their face but their personality so that when someone looks at the portrait you commissioned people will something like , "Oh my goodness, that's the exact grin Johnny had".
  4. It's also cool if yout photo captures a special memory or tells a story (without being too complex.)
Here are examples of good photos for  portrait commissions and photos that are better for a memory album. The photos with a close up of the face are perfectly suited for portraits. Group photos (see below) or small images (where you can't see much difficulty are not ideal for portraits.

It's always best to submit about 5-10 choices for your portrait references and we can discuss which memory photo would be the best portrait for you.
